7 Simple Steps To Start Achieving Flow State (Must-Read Advice)

What’s the best way to start achieving flow state?

The process is much simpler than it may seem.

As you probably know, getting started is the hardest part of the creative process.

When you break past your initial blocks, you quickly find yourself firing on all cylinders.

By the time you finish reading this article, you’ll know how to consistently get into a flow state – allowing you to increase your productivity every day.

What’s the best way to streamline this procedure?

Let’s start with the basics.

Achieving Flow State Is About Losing The Chatter Of Your Ego

The purpose of getting into flow is to push your internal critic (ego) into the back of your mind.

This makes room for your intuition to shine through.

It’s about living in the present moment.

Creation is an ego-less process that sheds old aspects of self.

If you’re rooted in the ego you resist change because you’re self-conscious about your identity.

Losing your ego lets you work purely from your subconscious.

Minimize Distractions, Leverage Momentum

Before I integrated these steps into my daily routine I often struggled with optimizing my work flow.

My functionality was nowhere near 100% as I was scatterbrained and easily distracted.

By being selective with my surroundings and influences, I was able to drop dead weight and hone my focus.

Now I’m sharing my formula with you.

These 7 steps are designed to help sharpen your tunnel vision and finish your work with maximum efficiency:

1. Wake Up Early

Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

-Benjamin Franklin

Scientists agree, your brain works best in the morning.

By waking up early, you get a head start on the day. This gives you “extra” time to fire up momentum.

When you’ve already done your heavy lifting while others are still asleep, the rest of the day goes by much more smoothly.

2. Go To The Gym/Workout

The next step after waking up early is to get your workout in.

Exercise makes you step out of your head and into your body.

This makes you more aware of your connection to the collective mind, and lowers your patience with regards to tolerating annoyances.

It’s easier to clear mental hurdles when you’ve already conquered your physical realm.

3. Go On A Walk/Bike Ride

Going on a walk/bike ride is a great way to cool down after your workout.

It helps your brain make new connections, and lets your influences circulate.

By engaging your conscious mind with a repetitive activity, you allow your subconscious to speak louder.

4. Drink A Kale Or Beet Juice

(Beet Juice Is An Excellent Way To Sharpen Your Focus)

When you’ve finished your walk/bike ride, it’s time to to flood your body with nutrients.

Drinking vegetable juice is a highly efficient way to do so.

The potent blend of vitamins contained within the juice diminish brain fog and sharpen your perception.

I personally alternate between kale and beet juice, although both are equally powerful.

5. Meditate

Now that you’ve established a fair bit of momentum, it’s time to push your ego even further into the background.

Meditation allows you to completely shift your focus into the present moment.

By compounding this habit on top of the prior steps, you create a peaceful state of mind. This turns up creativity and turns down self-doubt.

6. Read Some Quality Material

Reading is an extremely valuable activity.

Not only does it give actionable advice, it also provides thought stimuli and clears prior misconceptions.

When you have a large base of knowledge built-up within, you have less reasons to second-guess yourself.

This step waters the garden within your mind.

7. Grind Out Some Warm-Up Sets

By this point, you should be completely on.

If you’re facing some last minute resistance, grind out a few warm-up sets to let the ideas flow.

A fantastic solution is to free-write for an hour.

When the dam bursts, you’ll be unstoppable.

Conclusion

You can get into a flow state by using momentum to reduce influence of ego.

The goal is to minimize self-doubt and maximize creativity.

These 7 steps have been designed to eliminate brain fog, optimize work flow, and stir up/maintain momentum.

When you follow these steps, I guarantee you’ll see results.

Enjoy!

Looks like we’re on the same wavelength!

As for the book, I’ve been kicking around a few ideas but we’ll see what the future holds..

  2. In step 2 Workout, you meant increase your patience I assume, not lower.

great article, I am buying some blue blocking glasses to help me to sleep so I can wake up early.

    1. Increases patience in the sense of being grounded emotionally.

Decreases patience in the sense of tolerating the presence of fools.
