Nipsey Hussle – How Do People Become Millionaires?

How do people become millionaires?

Check out this interview with Nipsey Hussle.

(Who is a self-made multi-millionaire).

Here’s the breakdown:

Committing To The Long Game:

I remember planting seeds and then reaping the benefits later.

I was being really committed and pure with my energy.

(Only doing music and suffering financially).

I was in the studio for so long that my old world faded and my ego took a hit. But I was still committed to the process. I wasn’t doing nothing but music.

I was confused like where does the good karma pay off at? Cuz I was real committed.

My money got short. That ain’t stop me. How I was being viewed change. People acted like I fell off a little bit. And I stayed committed. I ain’t have no answers for that one. Then, I got raided on suspicions and caught a case.”

The Value Of Assets:

“It discouraged me for a long time.

But I had accumulated so much music, I took a break and started hustling full time. I couldn’t afford to sit in the studio like that.

I didn’t make no new music from the time I got raided to the time a rep reached out.

They wanted to sign me off the old music. It was all our old work.

This is reaping benefits from work I did years ago.

It took a while for the process to come back. It came back on its own time.

I didn’t put no new studio energy in. It was existing already.

It was enough to get me out of my situation.

We reaping the fruits of the labor years later.

You never can outrun your karma.”

Applying Different Business Models:

I read a book called contagious by Jonah Berger.

He had a story about a restaurant in Philly that has a $100 cheesesteak and everyone thought it was crazy.

It became a status symbol.

Oprah and Jay Leno came to get one.

It became a thing.

I thought “that hasn’t been done in rap at all”.

Segmenting + Serving Different Levels Of Your Audience:

“An artist has a fractional fanbase.

You got some fans that are mildly engaged. You got some fans that are 100% committed.

When you sell a $100 album, you make it special.

It come with a private invite only concert.

It became a way to reciprocate what you were getting out of the music.

I got a lot of backlash at first.

There was also a free version of the project too.

It was on itunes and all the streaming platforms.

I say “Always by choice never by force”.

Jay-Z spent 10 racks with us. That sent the media + narrative of the album on a tailspin.”

Multiple Streams Of Income:

“I have:

Everything don’t go in one direction.

It be ups and downs in any game.

If you doing well and you got a surplus, instead of investing it all in the same situation, take some of it and start something else up.

If something slow down, you got other things to keep you afloat.”

Owning Your Time To Do The Things You Enjoy:

“You can make art from a more pure perspective because you’re not relying on it solely for money.

You have other sources of income where you can really be an artist.

That turns into the best product because it’s not created under the necessity of profit.”

Masterminds:

There’s an incubator aspect of it.

The intagible benefits to being around 12 entrepreneurs from the same area.”

Getting Into Flow:

“When you in the zone you know you are, but how you get there is always different.

It’s kind of like meditating.

You have to practice getting there.

That’s how it is to receive music.”

There you have it.
