What is one of the most important ingredients to increase website sales?
Finding an angle that works on an offer that converts well.
You see, a product with big value won’t sell if you don’t position it right.
(Your offer itself is the bottleneck.)
This is what happened when I first tried the niche site challenge.
- I chose high-ticket items ($10,000+)
- They were selling well on Amazon
- These items had 5 star reviews
Should be successful right?
Turns out, a few of my sites failed.
I was targeting large businesses + property owners who would rather go straight to the original vendor for pro installation.
Massive purchases require massive trust, which niche sites can’t provide.
Sure you can add
- Paypal logos
- Scientific studies
- Genuine social proof
- Hacker safe badges
etc…
But you can’t add enough trust to bridge the gap.
The point of niche sites is to add value to impulse purchases, not draw in big fish in need of giant solutions.
It isn’t enough to choose an in-demand niche with great reviews…
You must also consider HOW your audience chooses to buy.
This is the whole purpose of marketing.
Take water for instance.
Water is awesome. Water is necessary for life.
However, your average Joe Blow isn’t going to buy a SeaWorld tank full of it because he’s in a different market.
He still wants water, only he wants a bottle to quench his temporary thirst. He’ll buy from a streetside vendor who adds value through convenience.
SeaWorld isn’t going to buy from the streetside vendor even if he has enough water to supply them. There isn’t enough trust to overcome the barrier.
(Especially when they could go somewhere with a proven reputation).
Same product, different marketing (angle).
This insight helped improve results on some of my other sites – creating a few additional income streams over time.
If you’d like to do the same, you can use this lesson to avoid wasting time, money, and energy.
